Higher education institutions in Canada and abroad encourage faculty to useÌýstudentÌýfeedbackÌýto provide insight about the student experience. Student Learning Experience Questionnaire feedback can be used to help assess teaching strategies, courseÌýsuitability,Ìýand program relevance.

Results from the evaluations are used for a wide range of purposes. For example, they provide data and guidelines for:

  • EvaluationÌýof teaching effectiveness.

  • Promotion and tenureÌýapplications for instructors, and other personnel decisions.

  • Quality assuranceÌýprocesses in the review andÌýrestructuringÌýof institutional, faculty,ÌýdepartmentÌýand program goals.

  • Preparation of supporting evidence forÌýteaching awards and grants.

  • Enhancement of º£½ÇÉçÇø teaching and learningÌýprofileÌýregionally and nationally.

An essentialÌýcomponent

Student Learning Experience Questionnaires (SLEQs) are crucial for evaluating the quality of education at º£½ÇÉçÇø. They form an essential part of the university's formal evaluation strategy, which includes student feedback (both SLEQ results and direct evidence of students' achievement of learning outcomes), self-reflection, and peer evaluation of teaching. This peer evaluation can involve reviewing teaching materials andÌýpossibly observingÌýteaching sessions, all of which are compiled into a comprehensive teaching dossier.

More informal strategies for gathering feedback orÌýidentifyingÌýways in which courses and programs may be enhanced include peer consultation and in-class student feedback.Ìý() providesÌýinformationÌýonÌýassessing teaching effectiveness and how to use the results to enhance:Ìý
