About Us
The MacEachen Institute for Public Policy and Governance is a nationally focused interdisciplinary centre that supports progressive public policy and citizen engagement. We are a non-partisan institute that conducts research, promotes public dialogue, and develops partnerships with government, community, and corporate sectors to address national and regional priorities.
Our Mission
Canada鈥檚 democratic health depends on an informed and engaged citizenry working alongside responsible political and judicial institutions. The MacEachen Institute contributes to policy-making by promoting evidence-based scholarship and public debate, and by fostering research and dialogue that is open, fair, and non-partisan. We provide critical and independent perspectives and effective recommendations, rooted in the values of inclusivity and fairness.
Our Vision: An Independent and Informed Citizenry
Our vision is to encourage an independent and informed citizenry, by deepening and broadening discussion of current political issues. We strive to promote democracy and social justice through progressive public policy. We welcome opportunities to build relationships with communities and organizations in the Atlantic region and beyond; our vision supports strong national policies and programs that benefit all Canadians.
Our Research Interests
Building on the tremendous legacy of Allan J. MacEachen, the Institute focuses on questions of governance, justice, and the public interest. Our research examines key areas such as economic development, institutional resilience, health, and security. We are committed to research and dialogue that fosters public engagement, progressive social policy, and the principles of liberal democracy. In placing national and regional trends in their larger geopolitical contexts, our research framework considers domestic issues such as affordability and public safety.
